The Cell Meeting Format

Here's a format for "running" a cell group meeting

  • Welcome everyone. Make them feel at home.  If someone is a first time visitor, give them special attention.

  • Break the Ice. Ask a question or play a game to get everyone focused. For ideas. check out "Icebreakers".

  •  When possible, worship is a nice addition to the cell.

  • Prepare a short message specific to the needs of the specific group,( men, women ,couples,  young people, or children).  We have a great number of cell outlines available.

  •  Lead a brief discussion concerning the word shared. Answer questions.

  • Pray together. Ask about needs. (Write them down!)

  • Invite the Holy Spirit to meet needs and encounter the group. Allow Holy Spirit to move.

  •  If an unsaved person is present, end with a brief Gospel presentation and invitation to pray a sinner’s prayer.  Be sure to get contact information on a "Connect" card.

  • Be available afterward if someone needs you.

  •  The “formal meeting” part of a Cell meetings should rarely last more than an hour.  There should be a point at which those that need to leave can, without feeling awkward. However, much of the pastoral work will be done during informal talks and fellowship after the meeting.

  • IMPORTANT   During the course of the evening, either before the formal meeting starts, during the actual meeting, or after the formal meeting ends, be sure to ask all disciples on the "Road to Maturity" to discuss their journal notes and observations from the week’s required Bible reading. This is done to ensure they are staying in the word. Look at their notes. You are their accountability person.  As they share what they have read, allow them to ask questions. As time permits, answer them. If the answers require more time, get one-on one at another time after the meeting or during the week.  (Write it down so you don’t forget!)
